noted.man recently hosted its inaugural noted.dialogues event, by hosting a dialogue on the state of menswear, led by panelists Mr Shaldon Kopman and Mr Felipe Mazibuko. The conversation series aims to illuminate the right discussion points across our editorial pillars of Thought, Culture, Life and Style, with a view to sparking collective action.
Attended by an insider’s list of designers, tailors, media, retailers, stylists, buyers and those who simply enjoy the luxury of adorning menswear, the two-hour discussion was split into design, craft and business. What are the fashion schools teaching? Why are South African tailors reluctant to improve as tailors? What is the relevance of fashion weeks? How has social media failed menswear businesses? There were plenty of questions and the guests were not shy to weigh in, facilitated by a loose format that allowed for continuous dialogue between the panelists and the audience.
Always insightful and at times heated, the debate unlocked a common sentiment on the need to collectively act for the good of menswear and the south african fashion scene in general. By the end of an evening lubricated by Dewar’s True Scotch and Aultmore single Malt, the need for a Part 2 was unanimous. We are working on it. In the meantime, please take a glimpse at the noted.dialogues world.
