Reconnecting Pangaea | The internet’s new voices

Reconnecting Pangea logo

Reconnecting Pangaea is a web series that explores the internet’s impact on modern African society. The first of three episodes – directed by contributor Mr Lee Molefi – looks at how South African popular culture has evolved, detailing the significance – and challenges – of the strong, young black online voice.

Mr Siphiwe Mpye, our editor and veteran of the publishing and communications industries, features prominently, giving the historical context for the booming young South African black voice on the internet. He goes on to encourage young content creators to collaborate more and take holistic ownership of their content. In an age where many a brand’s go-to strategy in reaching their desired audiences is seeking the assistance of so-called digital influencers, digital citizens with have much more agency than they often realise and need to use that influence for their benefit, financial and otherwise.
